Archedemus’s Win in The Gong 2020 Is His Career’s Biggest Payday

NEW SOUTH WALES, Australia – Archedemus and jockey Jay Ford bagged the top prize in The Gong 2020 race held yesterday, November 21. The Hawkes Family-trained gelding was in purple when he ran in the 1,600-metre quality handicap competition. Archedemus and his team’s The Gong 2020 victory is reportedly their largest payday in his horse racing career.

Award-winning horseman Ford had a race day double following lifting Stolen Jade to triumph 35 minutes earlier. Australian horse racing tips and information portal JustHorseRacing indicated that The Gong champions get to take home $1 million in prize money. The seven-year-old Archedemus defeated the Adrian Bott and Gai Waterhouse-trained Dawn Passage who placed second. Meanwhile, Brenton Avdulla was aboard Think It Over trained by Kerry Parker who placed third. Archedemus also beat Reloaded in The Gong 2020 on Saturday. He is the 4-year-old, bay-coloured stallion trained by Chris Waller and rode by Glyn Schofield in The Gong 2020.

Archedemus is a former local sprinter. When sticking on for a tough victory, he went to another level in the Kembla Grange horse race yesterday. Additionally, Carolyn’s Star and Lope De Vega’s son set a fast tempo alongside Bjorn Baker-trained, 5-year-old mare, Positive Peace. However, at the business end, Archedemus had plenty in the tank when giving a kick to hold off Dawn Passage to be victorious by a neck.

Meanwhile, Think It Over is a local hopeful who also demonstrated his running prowess in The Gong 2020 above his market price when finishing third behind Archedemus. He was along with Reloaded, who returned a better effort on dry ground and was three lengths away in fourth place. At the beginning of the preparation, Archedemus got transferred to Hawkes Racing. This measure was an attempt to recapture his most optimal form, and it has paid dividends with The Gong 2020 tilt now in his resumé, as per Australian horse racing and information website, Racenet.

Michael Hawkes is one-third of Archedemus’s trainers. He trains this year’s The Gong champion in collaboration with his father, John, and brother Wayne. Hawkes remarked that he had advised Ford to permit Archedemus to roll forward and allow him to perform the rest. He relayed that the 7-year-old Rosehill Gardens Racecourse resident is the type of runner that his jockey has got to let go half a length faster than slower. Hawkes added that he had told Ford to merely try and get Archedemus’s mental attitude correct.

The racehorse trainer mentioned that his bay-coloured sprinter’s run last start held at Hawkesbury was excellent. Hawkes cited that Archedemus, however, was merely found demanding the final bit. He pointed out that he was a bit anxious halfway out they were going a little too fast. Hawkes said that Archedemus, however, was very tenacious. He added that running in The Gong 2020 was a courageous effort and the talented sprinter and his jockey deserve all the credit.

The Gong is a horse race named after the Wollongong region. Kembla Grange, which is the competition’s venue this year, is located next to this place. In 2021, The Gong will take place on Saturday, November 20, at the same venue, the Kembla Grange racecourse. This tilt is one of the brand-new feature horse racing matches that the Racing New South Wales announced. It is a component of the recent additions to the iconic The Everest carnival. The latter sporting event awards $45 million in prize money to the winners.
