Racing Queensland Will Implement New Racing Zones

TAREN POINT, New South Wales – Racing Queensland is going to enforce new horse racing regions from Sunday. Moreover, the organisation cited that members of the horse racing industry could expect no further changes in this latest measure until Friday, May 1.

During the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic, Racing Queensland has required the jockeys from the second largest state of Australia to compete in particular areas. The group has implemented this practice as a component of the new safety and wellness regulations that they had established. Brendan Parnell affirmed that the new zone was a significant measure in safeguarding the welfare of the riders. Furthermore, he relayed that the racing sector of Queensland had responded efficiently and fast to put a range of biosecurity protocols in place.

These protective measures consist of the designated horse racing zones and the patron-free events, the Racing Queensland chief executive officer remarked. Parnell also mentioned the establishment of the Greater Western region. He pointed out that this step had allowed them to isolate the jockey movement more across Queensland. The other zones of Queensland are South East regional, North Coast, and Central Coast. Parnell confirmed that the biosecurity measures they are implementing are following the new regulations of the Government of Queensland that pertain to the region. Also, he said that they want to make sure that the outback sections get quarantined from the coast.

In the past, jockeys from outside the Metro South West, including Toowoomba, Gold Coast, and Ipswich, could race across two non-metro areas. Also, riders from outside Metro North, including Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, could perform the same action. However, with the latest measures the group has taken, Racing Queensland prohibits jockeys to race across two non-metro regions. The organisation directs that riders must compete in the one zone, based on the news by Australian horse racing news and information website Racenet. Otherwise, if they are going to modify their racing zones, Racing Queensland mandates them to perform a required two-week isolation spell.
