Top Jockeys Take Breaks on Holiday Season, Prepare for 2021 Tilts

SYDNEY, New South Wales – Craig Williams and Damian Lane are taking a breather during the festive season. They cited that it is appropriate for them to recharge mentally and physically and get ready for their racing engagements in 2021. In the New Year, Lane affirmed that he is considering taking a brief vacation.

His planned break will take place before preparations ramp up towards the Sydney and Melbourne autumn carnivals. The top-performing jockey confirmed that he would be taking merely after Christmas-New Year off.  Lane said that he would just work out whether there are too many racehorse trainers cracking the whip or whether he could get home to Western Australia for Christmas.

On Sunday, Lane notched the first two champions at Werribee, both for the Ellerton-Zahra yard, after riding the last victor at Pakenham on Saturday. Meanwhile, Williams also confirmed that he would be going on vacation during the holiday season. The 43-year-old jockey has previously taken breathers in the winter. Nevertheless, with the coronavirus or COVID-19 restrictions, Williams opted to ride through to the spring carnival, similar to plenty of his peers.

The leading horseman shared that due to COVID-19 regulations, his typical preparation coming down into the spring carnival and the new season was utterly turned upside down like the other riders. Williams remarked that, once the Spring Racing Carnival concluded, he and his wife needed to spend some moments together. Thus, he cited that they had had to work out the time for their get-together.

The champion jockey affirmed that it is truly significant for him to balance family time and his racing career. He added that balancing his family and career life leads him to ride better and clearer.

Williams pointed out that the jockeys’ championship is his focus at this point. He mentioned that he is truly looking forward to a couple of racehorses returning. The two gallopers Williams is expecting to come back are three-year-old fillies Instant Celebrity and September Run, based on the report posted online by Australian horse betting news and information website, Racenet.

Williams described Instant Celebrity as truly thrilling and that he is looking forward to this Phillip Stokes-trained runner returning in the New Year. The outstanding jockey also said that he is excited to ride September Run this 2021. He described the Chris Waller-trained filly as merely fantastic in her three runs down the straight. Williams also remarked that there are a couple of amazing horse races returning for September Run at Flemington.

Besides Instant Celebrity and September Run, Williams relayed that he also feels excited for the two-year-old racehorses who he said he is looking forward to coming back. He added that, as he felt at Sandown from Wednesday, these young gallopers, especially the outstanding ones, are truly beginning to return.

Williams is committed to eating into the margin that outstanding jockey Jamie Kah has erected in the Victorian metropolitan premiership horse race. He sits two premierships behind the record of 11 set by the late Bill Duncan and the late Roy Higgins.
