Young UK Jockeys on Standby, Prepare for Upcoming Competitions
VICTORIA, Australia – High-performing young jockeys from the United Kingdom are currently awaiting the resumption of horse racing.
While waiting, they are keeping themselves healthy and fit. Also, some of these sports figures are engaged in the horse races lined up in their schedule.
Hollie Doyle is the leading female jockey in Great Britain. The 23-year-old horsewoman enjoyed an outstanding 2019.
Doyle made a record by riding 116 winning racehorses, which is an accomplishment for female jockeys.
This achievement indicates that she rode more winners in one calendar year than any other jockeys in her category.
Furthermore, with 35 winners, Doyle had started 2020 vigorously.
She had made this achievement before the closure of horse racing due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Based on the news from Racing TV, the British jockey surpassed the record 106 winners of Josephine Gordon in November last year.
Moreover, Doyle was the sole third female rider to attain a century.
In 2008, British jockey Hayley Turner made a record by being the first horsewoman to cross the three-digit milestone mark.
Doyle remarked that she is keeping herself occupied at present. She said that, in this manner, she could get herself prepared for when horse racing resumes.
Doyle cited that she is riding racehorses every day as practice, according to the report by Horsebetting.com.au.
Also, aside from her need to engage in her regular workouts, she pointed out that the racehorses need to move.
Hence, Doyle affirmed that she does not stop riding sports horses. Furthermore, she shared that she rode for racehorse trainer Archie Watson last Monday.
She said that her team is merely preparing at this point until the time that formal horse racing is going to recommence.
Other British jockeys getting ready for the resumption of horse racing competitions is Tom Marquand.
The male jockey turned 22 years old on Monday, March 30.
According to an October 2018 The Times report, Doyle and Marquand first met each other on the pony circuit when they were still teenagers.
Now, the childhood sweethearts are both professional jockeys and are a couple.
While in Australia, Marquand is observing the stringent protocols that the horse racing industry officials had implemented recently due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He reportedly intends to fly back to the United Kingdom after he rides Young Rascal and Addeybb for British racehorse trainer William Haggas in Sydney.
This match is the Group One Races scheduled on Saturday, April 11 at the Royal Randwick Racecourse.
Also, Marquand celebrated his first-ever Group One victory with Addeybb during the Sydney tilt The Ranvet Stakes held recently at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.
Doyle affirmed that Marquand is enjoying his Australian stint.
Nevertheless, she remarked that her boyfriend is a little anxious about returning to the United Kingdom due to the alarming coronavirus pandemic.
Also, Doyle pointed out that Marquand had told her that he is unaware of how long horse racing could last due to the global healthcare crisis.
Nevertheless, the female rider confirmed that she believes her partner will be alright as he will come home following the conclusion of his participation in the Sydney Cup.
