Krone’s Coolmore Classic Win Ends Tony Gollan’s Group 1 Drought
ROSEHILL, New South Wales — Krone bagged the top prize in the Coolmore Classic 2021 today, March 13. This latest victory of the brown and black-coloured racemare enabled Tony Gollan to end his Group One drought of nearly seven years. Brisbane’s premier racehorse trainer had concerns regarding the handicapping of the in-form racemare.
Nonetheless, Krone put them to rest as she carried 57 kilograms. In the Coolmore Classic 2021, Gollan’s Eagle Farm racehorse defeated Mizzy, who came in second place and third-placer, Dame Giselle, following a deft ride from Tim Clark, per the news posted online by Australian news outlet 7News. Contestants of Saturday’s Coolmore Classic ran on a firm track.
However, Krone burst on the scene within 200 metres before scoring a clear-cut victory. This winning moment for the Gollan-trained racehorse involved Clark saving ground from an inside barrier. Additionally, the five-year-old racemare did not get deterred by an impost Gollan thought was unfair and an inappropriate racing surface.
The Queensland galloper demonstrated that she is more than a wet-track specialist in winning the Coolmore Classic 2021. Last year, Krone got earmarked for stud. Nonetheless, Gollan kept her in training. Her racehorse trainer relayed that he must admit he was much confident earlier this week when it appeared like they would get a damp track.
Gollan relayed that he was really kicking stones that morning when that expectation did not eventuate. He added that he really thought it would be too challenging for Soft Landing and Eurozone’s daughter on the firm ground. Gollan pointed out that he had nothing to lose heading to Sydney after Krone bagged a Magic Millions competition in January on the Gold Coast. He cited that such an event offered them a free throw at the stumps down there.
Furthermore, Gollan said that it was a higher stage once more. Yet, he felt that Krone, whose current total prize money is $1,076,650 per the racehorse details posted online by Australian horse racing information and news website Racenet, had merely performed excellently.
Krone’s present horse racing record is five victories from 25 starts. She has several owners, including Rosemont Stud Proprietary Limited, J. Rullo, L. Robertson, D. R. Anderson, Dusty Hooves, and RTD Racing. Moreover, M. W. Young, A. J. Halloran, and B. J. Rogers are the other racehorse owners on the list of Krone’s owners, among others.
The Coolmore Classic 2021 is a 1,500-metre handicap competition. The Group One horse racing competition for mares and fillies at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse awarded $600,000 as a cash prize to the winning team.
