How to read harness racing results
Harness form has a few quirks of its own. The mile rate normalises times across distances, so compare that first. Then look at gait: a 'BRK' or break in running usually ends a horse's chance, but a horse that breaks and still runs a competitive mile rate is often one to follow. Front-runners that find the pegs (the rail) without cover are hard to run down at country tracks, while metro meetings often favour swoopers using the passing lane.
Trots tonight: following the circuit
The Australian harness calendar runs year-round, headlined by Victoria's Melton, NSW's Menangle β home of some of the world's fastest miles β and the Inter Dominion series. Use this page for tonight's results, then jump to next-to-jump to catch the following race live.
Betting on the trots
Harness markets are often softer than thoroughbred ones, which rewards punters who do the form. Key angles: horses drawn the front line in mobile starts, trainers in red-hot form at the venue, and class droppers coming out of stronger metro fields into a country cup. Fixed odds are usually available early on trots cards, so compare prices as soon as markets open.
Harness results β your questions answered
Where can I find today's harness results?
All of today's Australian harness (trotting and pacing) meetings are listed here with full finishing order, margins and starting prices, updated as stewards confirm each race.
What is a mile rate in harness racing?
The mile rate is the time a horse would have run a mile in based on its finishing time β the harness equivalent of a rating. A rate of 1:55 or faster at a metropolitan track marks genuine open-class form.
What is the difference between mobile and standing starts?
In a mobile start the field trails a moving gate car to the start line; most races use this. Standing starts (used in many trotter events and the Inter Dominion) begin from a line, and horses can be penalised for breaking gait before the start.
